Five Democratic Candidates Running for Plymouth & Barnstable District Senate Seat

Five Democratic candidates have announced for the open Plymouth & Barnstable District senate seat. Incumbent Senator Viriato “Vinny” de Macedo (R- Plymouth) will not seek re-election, but has yet to submit formal resignation. Special election to fill vacancy will likely be scheduled in winter. The Plymouth & Barnstable District includes towns of Bourne, Falmouth, and Sandwich in Barnstable County and Kingston, Pembroke, and Plymouth in Plymouth County.

JackStantonJack Stanton is a commercial fisherman and Sandwich resident. He graduated from George Washington University with a degree in International Affairs. SusanMoran2Susan Moran is a Falmouth Selectman and representative to the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates. She is an attorney with degrees from Tufts University and Suffolk University Law School. She also sits on the Cape Cod Water Quality Collaborative. ThomasMoakleyFalmouth native Thomas Moakley was the inaugural recipient of the Thelma Goldstein Scholarship from the Falmouth Democratic Town Committee. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and a student at Suffolk University Law School. He currently works as support staff in the Suffolk District Attorney’s office. JohnMahoneyJohn Mahoney Jr. has been on the Plymouth Board of Selectman since 2002. He has degree in Business Management form Bridgewater State University. He is a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 4. He ran unsuccessfully for the First Plymouth District House seat in 2014 and 2016 against Mathew Muratore (R-Plymouth).
